Hokkai Bon Odori

Experience one of Sapporo’s most cherished summer traditions at the Hokkai Bon Odori Festival, held in Odori Park from 13–16 August 2026. Taking place during the annual Sapporo Summer Festival, this lively event invites both locals and visitors to celebrate Japanese culture through music, dance, and community.
As evening falls, dancers wearing colourful yukata gather around a raised wooden stage known as a yagura, performing the traditional Bon Odori dance to the sound of taiko drums and folk songs.
Visitors are encouraged to join in, making it one of the easiest and most welcoming Japanese festivals to experience firsthand.
The festival is held alongside the famous Sapporo Summer Festival Beer Garden, giving you the chance to sample Hokkaido specialities, local craft beers, and delicious street food before or after the dancing.
With live music, lantern-lit evenings, and a friendly atmosphere, it’s one of the highlights of summer here in Sapporo!
