The Doshin/UHB Fireworks Festival (Toyohira River Fireworks)

The Doshin/UHB Fireworks Festival, also known as the Toyohira River Fireworks Festival, is one of Hokkaido’s largest and most spectacular summer events.
Each year, around 4,000 fireworks light up the night sky above the Toyohira River, with dazzling star mines, colourful aerial displays, and choreographed sequences set to music.
If heavy rain or severe weather prevents the event from taking place, the festival will be postponed to Friday, August 7, 2026.
For some of the best views, arrive early and head to the riverbank between Toyohira Bridge and Minami 19-Jo Ohashi Bridge.
This stretch offers excellent, unobstructed views of the fireworks and is one of the most popular places to watch the display. Bringing a picnic mat and arriving well before sunset will help you secure a good viewing spot.
